Our Focus: Optimizing Treatment for Known Conditions
As a telemedicine Family Practice clinic, we’ve designed our practice around what we do exceptionally well: finding superior, evidence-based treatments for patients with established, differentiated diagnoses. If you know you have diabetes, migraines, asthma, high cholesterol, or any other chronic condition, we excel at optimizing your treatment with the most advanced medications and protocols available including those sometimes thought of as specialty level, but safe enough to be managed by non-specialists. This is where our approach shines—and where we can truly make a difference in your life.
What We Generally Don’t Treat: Undifferentiated Symptoms
However, there are important limitations to what can be safely and effectively managed through telemedicine. We generally do not evaluate or treat undifferentiated symptoms—meaning symptoms without a known underlying cause. This includes things like unexplained nausea, fever, abdominal pain, dizziness, headaches (without a migraine diagnosis), or chest pain.
Why? These symptoms require the kind of comprehensive physical examination, immediate diagnostic testing, and sometimes urgent intervention that simply cannot be provided remotely. A new fever could be a simple viral infection—or it could be something serious. Abdominal pain could be indigestion—or appendicitis. We believe these presentations deserve thorough, in-person evaluation, and attempting to diagnose them remotely would not serve your best interests or safety.
Our Urgent Care Exceptions
That said, we do offer limited urgent care services for specific, well-defined acute conditions where telemedicine has proven safe and effective:
- Upper Respiratory symptoms: Stable productive cough or sinus symptoms lasting more than 5 days
- Urinary issues: UTI symptoms, yeast infections
- STI concerns: Symptoms suggestive of sexually transmitted infections
- Confirmed infections: Strep throat, COVID-19, or influenza with a positive test result
- Acute exacerbations: Worsening of your existing chronic conditions that we already or would otherwise treat.
These conditions have clear diagnostic criteria that can be assessed remotely, and we have established protocols for safe treatment without a physical exam.
The Gray Zone: Symptoms That Might Be Primary Conditions
Some symptoms exist in a middle ground—they could represent undifferentiated illness requiring investigation, or they could themselves be the primary diagnosis. Common examples include:
- Insomnia
- Elevated blood pressure
- Erectile dysfunction
- Mental Health Concerns
- Constipation
For these types of presentations, we’re generally happy to initiate treatment on your first visit, particularly if the symptom has been present for weeks or months and you’re otherwise healthy. However, depending on your individual situation, we may require additional diagnostic testing (bloodwork, sleep study, cardiac monitoring) or recommend a one-time visit to an in-person provider as part of your comprehensive care plan. Our goal is to treat you effectively and safely—which sometimes means ruling out underlying causes before committing to long-term management.
Sleep Apnea Program
As part of our sleep apnea program, we actively screen for and diagnose obstructive sleep apnea. If you have symptoms suggestive of sleep apnea (snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches), we can order high quality “AASM 1A” home sleep studies and, if positive, help you get started on treatment including CPAP, BIPAP, weight loss medication, or alternative therapies.
What We Don’t Treat: Musculoskeletal and Orthopedic Conditions
We do not evaluate or treat musculoskeletal or orthopedic conditions of any kind—including back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder injuries, or joint problems. These conditions fundamentally require an in-person physical examination to assess range of motion, stability, neurological function, and structural integrity. They often need imaging like X-rays or MRIs to guide treatment decisions. Attempting to manage these conditions remotely would be doing you a disservice, as we couldn’t provide the quality of care these problems demand.
The Bottom Line
Our model is simple: we excel at managing known conditions with superior treatments, and we’re honest about the situations where telemedicine isn’t the right tool for the job. If you have an established diagnosis and want cutting-edge treatment, we’re your clinic. If you’re experiencing new, unexplained symptoms that need diagnostic workup, we’ll happily point you toward appropriate in-person care. We’d rather be upfront about our scope than overpromise and underdeliver.
